Volkswagen is apparently making good on its promise to offer a full range of plug-in hybrid electric vehicles (http://www.plugincars.com/vw-ev-chief-we-want-lead-electrification-125999.html). Yesterday, Porsche—VW’s luxury brand—announced that the redesigned 2015 Porsche Cayenne sporty SUV will be available with a plug-in option.
The Cayenne S E-Hybrid will join the Panamera S E-Hybrid (http://www.plugincars.com/porsche-panamera-s-e-hybrid) and 918 Spyder to bring the number of Porsche plug-ins to three. These are expensive luxury vehicles that sell in low numbers. Porsche has managed fewer than 500 sales of the $100,000 Panamera S E-Hybrid so far this year. The Cayenne, as a more functional SUV and with a price tag of $77,395, is expected to sell in slightly higher numbers.
