The first teaser image of the second-generation Nissan LEAF electric car.
A completely redesigned future version of the Nissan LEAF will be unveiled in Tokyo on Sept. 6. To build excitement, Nissan has released a teaser image (of the headlight) in advance of the September event. The company—once considered the leader in electric vehicles—said the image is “the first in a series of photos and informational briefs scheduled this summer in preparation for the global reveal of the new Nissan Leaf later this year.”
Camouflaged LEAF test mules have recently been spotted in Europe, raising questions about the look of the new EV. But the biggest questions relates to range and price—how a new LEAF will stack up against $35,000 long-range electric cars like the Chevrolet Bolt and upcoming Tesla Model 3. There are already rumors circulating about multiple battery pack sizes, ranging from 40 to 60 kilowatt-hours—which would provide between about 160 and 225 miles of driving range on a single charge.
